HC Deb 11 May 1914 vol 62 c719
36. Mr. BOYTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the state of the law relating to conversion, particularly in regard to the sale of goods on systems of hire purchase, he can see his way to appoint a Select Committee to inquire into the whole matter; and whether, in the event of the appointment of such Committee, he will arrange for representatives of the various interests affected to be afforded an opportunity of being heard?

Mr. McKENNA

I am not quite clear as to what the hon. Member has in mind when he refers to the state of the law relating to conversion. If it is the question of fraudulent conversion of goods obtained on the hire-purchase system, I am informed by the police that very few complaints on the subject have been received in recent years, and that the present law seems sufficiently strong to deal with anything like systematic fraud.
