HC Deb 07 May 1914 vol 62 cc436-7
44. Mr. F. HALL (Dulwich)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he proposes to institute proceedings for perjury against the park inspector who alleges that Sidney Butler, chaf-feur to the First Lord of the Admiralty, asked him, at the First Lord of the Admiralty's request, not to take any action with reference to a charge of exceeding the speed limit in St. James's Park, in view of the fact that he does not consider that the evidence bears out this official's allegation?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. McKenna)

I presume the hon. Member refers to a conversation between the park inspector and Sergeant Ashley. I have not made any statement such as the hon. Member imputes to me in the last part of his question, and there is no occasion for any action on my part.
