HC Deb 30 March 1914 vol 60 c801
9. Mr. C. BATHURST

asked upon what date it is proposed to bring into operation the amended Order of the Board in reference to bovine tuberculosis?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I cannot say at present.

11. Mr. C. BATHURST

asked whether, in accordance with the arrangement made a year ago with the Treasury, the sum of £60,000 will be available there [...]m during the current year for the payment of compensation to stock owners whose cattle are slaughtered as tuberculous in the interests of public health; and what proportion of such compensation and the cost of administration will in future be payable out of local rates?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The Estimate of £60,000 was necessarily, in the absence of any trustworthy evidence, based upon conjectural assumptions, some of which have not been justified by experience. The Estimate for the coming financial year is £20,000. I am not prepared at present to give a definite answer to the second part of the question.
