HC Deb 30 March 1914 vol 60 c821
75. Major WHITE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if air-locks have been adopted by the Admiralty for submarines; and, if so, whether the system adopted is based in any way on the patent No. 22,936/95, of Mr. Truss?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

Air-locks are fitted in some of the older submarines, but these are entirely different in principle from the patent of Mr. Truss—which I would observe bears the number 15,033/05—and are not based in any way on it. The patent, the number of which the hon. and gallant Gentleman quotes, refers, I understand, to another branch of invention altogether.
