HC Deb 30 March 1914 vol 60 cc816-7
44. Colonel YATE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the fund raised in connection with the "Titanic" disaster is administered by the Public Trustee or by whom; whether any balance sheet or statement of expenditure of the fund has been, or will be, published; and whether any permanent fund has been formed for the relief of sufferers from future disasters at sea?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL (Sir John Simon)

I have been asked by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade to answer this question. I am informed that the "Titanic" fund is being administered under the control of a Mansion House Committee, acting through an executive sub-committee of which the Public Trustee is chairman. The first account of the fund was submitted to the Mansion House Committee in March last year, and communicated to the Press on the 19th March, 1913. A further account will be submitted in May next, and will no doubt be communicated to the Press in due course. So far as I am aware, no such fund as is referred to in the latter part of the question has been established.
