HC Deb 30 March 1914 vol 60 c827
100. Colonel YATE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that ex-soldiers and ex-sailors who enter the Civil Service are at a disadvantage as regards age as compared with other members of the service; that this is a constant source of dissatisfaction; and whether he will make provision in the proposed Bill to amend the Superannuation Acts for ex-soldiers and ex-sailors to count their Colour service towards promotion and pension?

My right hon. Friend cannot agree that ex-soldiers and ex-sailors who are specially permitted to enter the Civil Service above the usual age are thereby placed at a disadvantage. The answer to the last part of the question, as my right hon. Friend has previously stated, is in the negative.
