Mr. NEWMANasked the Chief Secretary whether repeated defacements that have been committed by certain miscreants to the memorial that has been erected in Cork city to the memory of Colonel M'Carthy O'Leary, Colonel Aldworth, and the officers and men of the city and county who fell in the South African War; and whether he will take steps to have the memorial more closely watched?
§ Mr. BIRRELLThe police inform me that on two occasions this memorial has been disfigured by some black fluid having been thrown on the tablet on one side of 202 the monument, and the damage can happily be repaired at a very small cost. The memorial is kept under very close supervision by the police.
