Mr. LARDNERasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what officials or staff are employed under the Road Board in Ireland for advisory or inspection purposes; will he give the names of these officials; and, if any of these officials are in the employment of Irish Departments or local authorities, will he state on what terms and conditions the Road Board have obtained their assistance?
§ The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Montagu)At the present time two engineering inspectors on the staff of the Road Board, namely, Messrs. J. P. J. Butler and R. W. Butler, are employed in Ireland for advisory and inspection purposes. In addition, Mr. P. C. Cowan, chief engineering inspector of the Local Government Board for Ireland, is a member of the Advisory Engineering Committee of the Road Board, the constitution and duties of which were set forth in the Board's First Annual Report. He receives no payment for his services as a member of that committee.
§ Mr. LARDNERIs Mr. Cowan the only member of the Local Government Board staff employed on the Road Board staff in Ireland?
§ Mr. MONTAGUYes. There was an Advisory Engineering Committee appointed last year, and Mr. Cowan is a member of it.
