§ Mr. HOBHOUSE1,105 assistant clerks are employed in the Post Office, and 1,072 supplementary clerks. In the last five years 35 assistant clerks have been selected for promotion to third-class clerkships. A number of assistant clerks have also been promoted to second division clerkships.
