§ 25. Mr. TOUCHEasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury when it is proposed to proceed with the widening of the east and west road through Surrey, and when the construction of the part immediately west of Dorking is likely to be undertaken; is he aware that proprietors of land abutting on the road have been informed that it is desirable to postpone frontage improvements in view of the possibility of a strip of the land being required for widening; and, in order to avoid unnecessary expenditure of private and public funds, can anything be done to accelerate a decision on the subject?
§ Mr. MONTAGUNo application in respect of the scheme in question has been submitted to the Road Board, who have no knowledge of negotiations with landowners. The Board regard the scheme, however, as one which might well be executed with their assistance in a period of trade depression.
