§ 46. Mr. CHARLES DUNCANasked the Prime Minister what action the Government propose to take in regard to the Report of the Royal Commission on the Civil Service; and whether any opportunity will be afforded for a discussion upon the matter?
§ The PRIME MINISTERAs I recently stated the recommendations are still under consideration, and I can say nothing further at present with regard to them. I will bear in mind the suggestion contained in the last part of my hon. Friend's question.
§ Mr. HOAREWill the right hon. Gentleman be able to make some statement as 885 to the decision of the Government with reference to this Report before the end of the Session?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI hope so.
§ 47. Mr. JAMES HOPEasked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the restricted nature of the Debate in Committee of Supply on 30th June, he will grant a day for the discussion of the question of the necessity or expediency of devising safeguards for securing the integrity of the public service?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI am not aware of any necessity for devising such safeguards, and I am not prepared to give Government time for a discussion of the matter.
§ Mr. JAMES HOPECan the right hon. Gentleman say, in view of the recommendations of the powerful Lords Committee, that there is no necessity for action on any of these recommendations?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI think I stated my own position and that of the Government very clearly in the course of the Debate.
§ Mr. SWIFT MacNEILLIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that a discussion such as the hon. Member wishes might lead to recriminations? Is he also aware that some of these noble administrators might be styled "guinea-pigs"?
