HC Deb 02 July 1914 vol 64 c533
36. Sir A. GRIFFITH-BOSCAWEN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that a postman at Lower Hardres is unable to obtain a house, and that his predecessor was similarly unable to obtain accommodation in that village; and whether he will place the Lower Hardres postman on the Canterbury scale of wages, seeing that he is compelled to live in that city?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Hobhouse)

It is the case, as stated by the hon. Member, that neither the present postman nor his predecessor has been able to obtain a house in Lower Hardres. I have now instructed the surveyor to consider whether the post can be worked from Canterbury as its starting point, and, if it be found that this is the best method of meeting the situation with due regard to the interests of the service, the postman will receive the scale of pay proper to that city. The necessary inquiries will be pursued with all expedition.
