HC Deb 24 February 1914 vol 58 c1592
72. Mr. O'DONNELL

asked what are the salaries, allowances, expenses, mileage, etc., paid to the various grades of officers in the Royal Irish Constabulary?

Mr. BIRRELL

The various rates of salaries, pay, and allowances of officers of the Royal Irish Constabulary are fully set forth in the annual Estimates presented to Parliament, to which I would refer the hon. Member. I am forwarding to the hon. Member a statement showing the rates of subsistence allowance and travelling expenses payable to the various grades of the force.

73. Mr. O'DOWD

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that a feeling of general dissatisfaction prevails amongst pensioners over the management of the Royal Irish Pension Superannuation Fund; and, if so, whether, in view of the general demand of pensioners for the winding up of that fund, he will consider the advisability of taking steps to have it wound up?

Mr. BIRRELL

I have received a number of memorials from past and present subscribers to the Constabulary Force Fund praying that the fund be wound up. As I have already stated, this fund was created by Statute for the benefit of widows and orphans of subscribers, and ought not to be diverted from that purpose unless it can be shown that owing to change of circumstances the original trusts cannot properly be executed.
