HC Deb 19 February 1914 vol 58 cc1106-7
10. Captain CRAIG

asked the Chief Secretary what property in the city of Dublin was maliciously injured in riots and disturbances resulting from the strikes organised by the Larkinites in that city; and what was the amount of claims made on the ratepayers of the city for compensation for these outrages?

Mr. BIRRELL

The police authorities inform me that during the recent strike disturbances in Dublin 272 tramcars were maliciously injured and the glass in the windows of 279 houses was broken. There were also fifty cases of overturning of drays and other vehicles, and damage to the merchandise carried in them. The total amount of claims for malicious injuries arising out of these disturbances was £3,819.
