HC Deb 17 February 1914 vol 58 c741
4. Sir J. D. REES

asked what is the present accumulation of Indian opium at Shanghai; and what steps are being taken to aid Indian opium dealers in disposing of such stocks?

Sir E. GREY

The stocks of Indian opium awaiting entry into China amounted on 1st February, to 13,213 chests. His Majesty's Minister at Peking has done all that he properly could to ensure the fulfilment of the provisions of the 1911 agreement.

Sir J. D. REES

Is compensation contemplated in case through the policy of the Government the dealers are not able to dispose of their stock?

Sir E. GREY

I cannot say what the ultimate solution of the question may be. It is at present under the consideration of His Majesty's Government as to what should be done.
