§ Mr. PETOasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he would consider the advisability of suspending the operations of the land valuation until the termination of the War, thereby liberating a very large body of men who, from their special qualifications, would be able to render valuable service in connection with the prosecution of the War, and further liberate a large amount of public money, now expended on land valuation, for the purposes of the defence of the Realm?
§ Mr. MONTAGUThe answer is in the negative. Every facility is, of course, being given to officers of the Land Valuation Department, who wish to volunteer for service, but I see no reason for throwing the remainder of the staff out of employment.
