HC Deb 21 April 1914 vol 61 c742
31. Major HOPE

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether the Committee to inquire into the conditions of reformatory and industrial schools in Scotland has commenced to take evidence?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The Committee has not yet been appointed, so the answer to the question is in the negative, but I hope soon to be in a position to announce its appointment.

Major HOPE

Will Scotland participate in the grant of 56s. per year per child which is the share England is to get as from 1st April, 1914?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I am afraid I have no authority to answer that question in the affirmative.

Major HOPE

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries and see that the interests of Scottish schools are not adversely affected?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I can assure the hon. and gallant Gentleman that I have made inquiries.
