HC Deb 20 April 1914 vol 61 c585
42. Mr. HUGH BARRIE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware of the loss caused to secondary teachers in Ireland by the failure to pass the Intermediate Education (Ireland) Bill of last Session; whether the Government intend to provide time for the passing of a similar Bill this year; and, if so, will the Second Reading be put down for a date before the Whitsuntide Recess?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Intermediate Educuation (Ireland) Bill was not introduced last Session owing to the delay caused by the difficulty in arriving at a scheme which would be satisfactory to the educational bodies concerned. The Bill has now been introduced, and I hope that it will meet with general approval, and be passed during the present Session, but I am not yet in a position to say definitely when the Second Reading will be taken.
