HC Deb 02 April 1914 vol 60 cc1355-6
26. Mr. JOHN WARD

asked under what Act of Parliament Michael Davitt was charged with importing arms into Ire- land and sentenced, in July, 1870, to fourteen years' penal servitude; whether the same law is still on the Statute Book; and if so, why similar proceedings are not taken against others who are alleged to be at present engaged in committing similar offences?

Mr. McKENNA

Michael Davitt was charged with feloniously compassing to dethrone the Queen and levy war against her under the Treason Felony Act, 1848. That Act is still on the Statute Book, and may be used if any persons are found to be committing similar offences.

Mr. W. THORNE

Put it in force at once.
