HC Deb 02 April 1914 vol 60 cc1344-5
60. Mr. PETO

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the public support of the proposals of the Daylight Saving Bill disclosed at the deputation he received on 24th March, including 710 city corporations and town and district councils, among which are the City of London and twenty-six out of twenty-eight Metropolitan boroughs and the corporations of Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow, Dundee, Dublin, Bel- fast, Cardiff, and Swansea he will ask the Prime Minister to give a day for the Second Reading and to give facilities for Members to vote independently of party considerations?

Mr. McKENNA

As I informed the deputation which I had the pleasure of meeting, should be glad if the House could be afforded an opportunity to consider the Bill, but it is quite impossible to give Government time for it. When the Bill is reached, Members will be invited to vote without regard to party ties.
