§ The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Captain Norton)If the reference is to the recent temporary additions to the clerical staff of the London telephone service, I would refer to the reply given to the hon. Member for the Blackfriars Division of Glasgow on 28th April. The revision proposals there mentioned provide for additions to nearly all grades, and as soon as the approval of the Treasury is received, steps will be taken 2217 to fill the new appointments. The temporary force employed in the various provincial telephone districts is being replaced as quickly as possible by permanent staff where the work on which it is engaged is found to be of a permanent character.
