HC Deb 07 May 1913 vol 52 cc2048-9
74. Mr. WATT

asked whether the £56,510 17s. 5d. on page 56 of the Finance Accounts of 1911–12, paid to judges of the King's Bench Division, constitutes the full sum paid to these judges, or whether there are any other emoluments to which they are entitled?

Mr. MASTERMAN

Judges of the King's Bench Division, when on Circuit, receive an allowance of £7 10s. per diem for each day's absence from London. These allowances are provided for in Sub-head C of the Supreme Court Vote, and are made in order to cover the various expenses to which the judges are put; no other emoluments besides their salary are drawn by them.

Mr. WATT

Does the right hon. Gentleman admit that the £56,510 mentioned in the question is the proper figure for the salaries paid to judges of the High Court, King's Bench Division?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I do not know, as I have not looked into that question.

75. Mr. WATT

asked whether the £17,500 on page 47 of the Finance Accounts of 1911–12, paid in pensions to five ex-judges of the King's Bench Division, constitutes the full sum paid by the State to these ex-judges, or whether there are any other sums paid to them on account of their past services?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I am not aware of any other payments.
