HC Deb 07 May 1913 vol 52 cc2044-5
61. Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether the Board is going to carry out any of the further recommendations of the Committee on Foot-and-Mouth Disease, other than that of imported straw, or is the Board waiting for the Report from India before anything more is done?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Runciman)

Pending the result of the scientific investigation of foot-and-mouth disease now being carried on in India, it is not proposed to take any further action upon the recommendations of the Departmental Committee, unless, of course, some special reasons for preventive measures should in the meantime be brought to the notice of the Board. I may perhaps remind the hon. Member that, in accordance with a suggestion made by the Committee, copies of the Report have been sent to His Majesty's representatives in foreign countries.

Mr. STANIER

When is the report from India likely to be received?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am afraid that I cannot say at present.
