§ 52. Mr. KINGasked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the University of Cambridge has recently made its degrees in divinity accessible to those not in holy orders; that the University of Oxford has, in spite of the express intention of the Chancellor and of Congregation, refused to open similarly its divinity degrees; and whether he will introduce legislation to bring these two ancient seats of learning into line with one another and with the views of the Chancellor of Oxford University?
§ The PRIME MINISTERAs I recently stated, I greatly deplore the recent decision of the Convocation of the University of Oxford, but I am not prepared to introduce legislation in the sense suggested by my hon. Friend.
