HC Deb 07 May 1913 vol 52 c2034
52. Mr. KING

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the University of Cambridge has recently made its degrees in divinity accessible to those not in holy orders; that the University of Oxford has, in spite of the express intention of the Chancellor and of Congregation, refused to open similarly its divinity degrees; and whether he will introduce legislation to bring these two ancient seats of learning into line with one another and with the views of the Chancellor of Oxford University?

The PRIME MINISTER

As I recently stated, I greatly deplore the recent decision of the Convocation of the University of Oxford, but I am not prepared to introduce legislation in the sense suggested by my hon. Friend.
