HC Deb 23 June 1913 vol 54 cc794-5
61. Mr. HEWINS

asked the President of the Board of Trade what would be the average incidence of Import Duty levied in the United States on British exports as represented by the proposed tariff recently introduced in the House of Representatives, and calculated on a basis similar to that employed in the Second Fiscal Blue Book?

Mr. BUXTON

A calculation on the lines indicated in the question of the average incidence of the proposed tariff on the principal classes of goods exported from the United Kingdom shows that it is equivalent to an average ad valorem duty of about 22 per cent.

Mr. HEWINS

Is not that figure about the same as that of the German tariff?

Mr. BUXTON

I should like notice of that question.
