HC Deb 23 June 1913 vol 54 c768
2. Sir J. D. REES

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has information to the effect that in Western Hunan sixty-seven persons were burned to death, at the instance of the Republican troops, in a temple wherein they had met to discuss the new opium policy and regulations; and, if so, whether ho is in a position to intimate to the Chinese authorities that, so far as British policy is concerned in this behalf, no such measures for the sudden suppression of the immemorial growth and use of a narcotic and medicine are required?

Mr. ACLAND

I have received no information to the effect stated in the question.

Sir J. D. REES

Has the hon. Member seen the statement in the Press, and does he contradict it?
