HC Deb 19 June 1913 vol 54 cc534-5
46. Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the Prime Minister whether, in allotting time to the Report stage of the Mental Deficiency Bill, he will bear in mind that all Members who, spoke against the Bill have been excluded from the Committee stage of the Bill and that only one opponent of the Bill has been allowed to take part upstairs, and that, therefore, full opportunities for discussion will be required on the Report stage in this House?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am informed that the Committee includes four Members who voted or told against the Bill. The suggestion in the last part of the question will be borne in mind.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Under the circumstances does the right hon. Gentleman, think that the Report stage should be discussed at greater length?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir. The opposition to the Bill is entirely a matter for the Committee, and the Government have nothing to do with it. With regard to the Report stage I will see that the hon. Member's suggestion is borne in, mind.
