HC Deb 17 June 1913 vol 54 cc183-4
1. Mr. NOEL BUXTON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether His Majesty's Consulate at Monastir is to be left vacant; and if he will take into consideration the value, especially in view of the duty of the Balkan States to repatriate the refugees, of maintaining or increasing the number of His Majesty's Consuls in the occupied provinces?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir Edward Grey)

His Majesty's Vice-Consul is at his post at Monastir, and there is no intention of leaving the Vice-Consulate vacant. The question of revising the distribution of Consular posts in the Near East will be decided when the conditions in that part of the world are settled. I do not think that there is any immediate need of increasing the number of Consular officers in the occupied provinces.
