HC Deb 10 June 1913 vol 53 cc1432-3
65. Mr. KING

asked in what yards the ships are to be built the orders for the building of which have been announced?

Mr. CHURCHILL

It is intended to build the ships by contract. The particular yards in which they will be constructed will depend upon the tenders received.

66. Mr. KING

asked whether the First Lord of the Admiralty intends to submit a Supplementary Estimate during the present financial year in order to provide for the accelerated shipbuilding programme which has been announced?

Mr. CHURCHILL

It is probable that a Supplementary Estimate will be required, but its amount will depend not only upon the progress made with the three antedated ships, but upon the earning powers of the contractors over the whole area of new construction. It is not possible to make any forecast at present.
