asked the Chief Secretary if he has had before him the report of Mr. R. Bourke, an auditor of the Local Government Board, upon his audit of the accounts of the Listowel Urban Council; if charges of falsification and forgery and misapplication of public money are brought against various persons; if the auditor states that the manner in which the affairs of the council have been conducted reflects discredit upon its members and officials, and that prompt steps should be taken to prevent recurrence of such disgraceful and fraudulent transactions as have transpired at this audit; and what steps he proposes to take in the matter?

The answers to the first three paragraphs of the question are in the affirmative. With regard to the last paragraph, the whole case has been referred to and is at present engaging the attention of the Law Officers.
