HC Deb 09 June 1913 vol 53 c1266
69. Mr. F. HALL

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Home Office has any control regarding the appeal by police constables against dismissal by the chief constables of counties; and, if not, whether he will undertake to introduce legislation in order to obviate the chance of any unjust treatment to the police?

Mr. McKENNA

The answer to the first question is in the negative. I am not prepared to propose legislation to give the Home Office power to interfere with the discipline of local police forces.

Mr. F. HALL

Has the right hon. Gentleman had brought to his notice the case of ex-Superintendent Kent, of the Worcestershire constabulary?

Mr. McKENNA

I cannot recall the name at the moment.

Mr. F. HALL

Will the right hon. Gentleman look into the question?

Mr. McKENNA

Certainly.
