HC Deb 05 June 1913 vol 53 c1041
54. Mr. C. BATHURST

asked if it is proposed under the new live stock improvement scheme of the Board to leave the appointment of the provincial live stock superintendents to the universities and central collegiate institutions, whose senates or governors have little knowledge of those agriculturists who are best equipped for the duties which will fall to such officials or to vest such appointments in the new provincial advisory councils, which are largely composed of provincial agriculturists?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The appointment of the live stock advisers will be made by those responsible for the agricultural departments of universities and colleges in the same way as other appointments are made to the agricultural staff of these institutions. It is likely that in every case the advisory councils will be consulted by those responsible for the selection, but the circumstances vary so widely that a general rule has not been considered desirable. The approval of the Board is required in every case.
