HC Deb 05 June 1913 vol 53 c1025
22. Mr. SHEEHAN

asked whether the fact that the Coolavokig national school has, since its reopening some weeks ago, had to be protected by special patrols of police, and that only thirteen children have been attending it whilst there were eighty-five previously on the rolls, has received notice on the part of the Commissioners of National Education; whether they have made any suggestions to the manager by which local feeling against the recently appointed teacher may be satisfied; and what powers of interference do they possess when the interests of seventy school children are neglected and jeopardised as in the present case?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Commissioners of National Education inform me that they have not made any suggestions of the nature indicated in the question. As I have already informed the hon. Member, the Commissioners see no reason for Interfering with the discretion of the manager in regard to the selection of a teacher in this case.
