HC Deb 29 July 1913 vol 56 c265
9. Mr. HUNT

asked the Secretary for War whether his attention has been called to the statement of Lord Esher, president of the County of London Territorial Force Association, that within a measurable distance of time mounted troops for Home defence could not be provided with horses; and whether he can say what steps the Government propose to take to remedy the deficiency?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Colonel Seely)

I hope to be able to make a general statement on this question tomorrow.

Mr. HUNT

Is it not the fact that the Yeomanry are very short of horses, and that a special appeal has had to be sent round for horses for Yeomanry regiments? Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether the War Office have yet ascertained how many Yeomen can safely be accommodated on one horse in time of war?

Colonel SEELY

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. With regard to the last one, I think I shall satisfy the hon. Gentleman by my statement to-morrow.

Mr. HUNT

I very much doubt it.
