§ 45. Mr. COOPERasked the Prime Minister whether, if a separate Parliament is set up for Ireland under the Government of Ireland Bill, the Speaker of the Irish House of Commons will be a member of the Board of Trade, as was the case with Speaker of the last Irish Parliament?
§ The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)As stated by my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary, in reply to a question asked on the 17th April, 1912, it is not intended that the Speaker of the Irish House of Commons should be a member of the Board of Trade. Whether it will be necessary to alter or revoke the Order in Council of 1786, which regulates the legal constitution of that body, is a matter for further consideration.
