HC Deb 23 January 1913 vol 47 cc618-9
68. Mr. TOUCHE

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, having regard to the proposal to introduce a Bill dealing with the possession of and traffic in pistols, he will grant the Return relating to shooting outrages on the police in the name of the hon. Member for North Islington?

Mr. McKENNA

The preparation of the Return asked for would involve much work which I cannot ask the police to undertake at present. If the hon. Member will limit his Return to the last three years, I think it may be possible to obtain the information he wants by the beginnning of next Session.

Mr. TOUCHE

Can the right hon. Gentleman give the information in some modified form for a longer period in order that the public may form some opinion as to whether this kind of outrage has been increasing of late years? Three years would hardly cover that.

Mr. McKENNA

What does the hon. Member mean by "in a limited form"?

Mr. TOUCHE

Not with so much detail.

Mr. McKENNA

I am afraid, in view of the work which the First Commissioner of Police has to undertake at present, I could not promise to give a Return for a longer period than three years.
