HC Deb 16 January 1913 vol 46 c2262
84. Mr. WHYTE

asked the names of the Committee appointed some years ago to supervise the distribution of Treasury Grants to English universities; whether the Committee issued a Report of its deliberations; whether the system of inclusive fees for a faculty or faculties is in force in any of these universities; and, if so, whether there exists any Report upon the working of the system?

Mr. PEASE

It is presumed that the hon. Member refers to the Advisory Committee on University Grants appointed by the Board in June, 1911. I am sending him a copy of their Report, which was issued in March, 1911. It contains a list of the names of the members. The universities in England and Wales in receipt of Exchequer Grants charge inclusive fees in the great majority of cases, universally so in the Faculty of Medicine. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.

Mr. WHYTE

Was not a Committee appointed somewhere about 1907 or 1908 for a similar purpose?

Mr. PEASE

I should like notice of that question.
