HC Deb 15 January 1913 vol 46 c2065
44. Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

asked whether, in view of the misapprehension that prevails on the matter, how much, if any, of the extra taxes imposed by the Budget of 1909–10 was allocated to new construction of battleships of the "Dreadnought" class?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The yield of a particular tax has never been allocated to the purposes referred to. I would, however, remind the hon. Member that since the introduction of the Budget for the year 1909–10 the expenditure on the Navy has risen from £32,188,000 for the year ended 31st March, 1909, to £45,075,000 for the current year, an increase of nearly £13,000,000.

Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

Would the right hon. Gentleman kindly answer my point and not make his own?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I think the answer a most effective one to the question put.
