HC Deb 01 January 1913 vol 46 c370
68. Mr. LUNDON

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland how many evicted tenants have been provided for; and the number which are still outstanding?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

Three thousand one hundred and eighty-one evicted tenants or their representatives have been reinstated in their former holdings or provided with other holdings, and 327 are provisionally noted for consideration in the allotment of untenanted land as acquired. These cases are being dealt with as rapidly as practicable.

Mr. LYNCH

Does not the right hon Gentleman think that the time has come to clear off this question once and for all, instead of allowing it to drag on year after year?

Mr. BIRRELL

It is being cleared off, I am happy to say, very rapidly, and we are at the fag-end of it.

69. Mr. LUNDON

asked the right hon. Gentleman the number of acres of untenanted land acquired by compulsion under the Evicted Tenants Act, 1907, in each of the four provinces?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners have acquired under the provisions of the Evicted Tenants Act, 1907, some 1,900 acres in Ulster, 8,400 acres in Leinster, 4,200 acres in Connaught, and 10,800 in Munster.
