HC Deb 01 January 1913 vol 46 c368
67. Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

asked the President of the Board of Education the total cost of the medical inspection and treatment of children in elementary schools in England and Wales during the last complete financial year; and what proportion of such cost was borne by the ratepayers?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. J. A. Pease)

The total expenditure on medical inspection and treatment of children in elementary schools in England and Wales, as shown by the returns received from local education authorities for the financial year 1910–11, amounted to £136,999. This is the latest year for which complete returns have been received. The whole of the cost was borne by the local authorities.

Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

Have all the local education authorities appointed medical inspectors for the schools?

Mr. PEASE

I should like to have notice of that question.
