HC Deb 04 February 1913 vol 47 c1964
7. Sir J. D. REES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what steps the Government of Bengal is taking to deal with the lawlessness existing in certain districts of Eastern Bengal?

Mr. BAKER

A large scheme for re-organising and increasing the subordinate civil police establishment in Eastern Bengal has been sanctioned by the Secretary of State in Council, and is in course of being introduced. In the more disturbed districts additional police have been stationed. As a further measure for increasing the security of life and property a special river police force with launches is being constituted to patrol the waterways of the province. In aid of these reforms the Government of India have granted subventions from Imperial revenues to the Provincial Government.
