§ 81. Dr. CHAPPLEasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the deportation from a Canadian asylum to Bannockburn of Annie Laird, notwithstanding the fact that she had spent five years in Canada in arduous and honest toil; and, if so, will he make representations to the Canadian Government in the matter?
Mr. HARCOURTMy attention was called to this case by the Local Government Board for Scotland, and I communicated with the Canadian Government, who inform me that Annie Laird, who arrived at Quebec on 2nd May, 1907, and was employed as a domestic servant, was sent back to Scotland last year with her own consent, a relative offering to provide a home for her, and being aware of her mental condition.
