§ 65. Mr. C. DUNCANasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether it is the practice in his Department for clerks engaged upon overtime to be required either to forego the usual Saturday half-holiday or to sacrifice the pay for the first three hours of any overtime they may work; and, if so, when this practice was-introduced?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The practice was introduced into the Admiralty consequent on the terms of Clause 7 of the Order in Council of 21st March, 1890, which states that a half-holiday on alternate Saturdays shall be allowed provided that the heads of the Department are satisfied that the state of public business will permit.
