Mr. SONAR LAWI beg to ask the Prime Minister a question, of which I have given him private notice: Whether it is true, as reported in the daily Press, that the Lord Chief Justice has resigned or has tendered his resignation, and, if so, when such resignation was first tendered, and when it was accepted; and also whether the right hon. Gentleman has advised the appointment of any successor, and, if nor, when is it intended t o do so?
§ The PRIME MINISTERNo; so far as I am aware, the Lord Chief Justice has not resigned. The last communication which I had with him, I am glad to say, led me to entertain the hope that in the course of time he will be able to resume his active duties.
