HC Deb 28 April 1913 vol 52 cc806-7
84. Mr. BARNES

asked whether Nobel's Explosives Company, Ardrossan, hold any contract with his Department; if so, whether he is aware that they pay their labourers 18s. 9d. per week, whereas other firms in the district pay from 22s. to 27s.; and whether he will take steps to have the Fair-Wages Clause complied with?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Harold Baker)

The matter will be inquired into, but it would be of great assistance if the hon. Member could furnish me with particulars as to the class of labourers referred to, and the hours worked by the labourers employed by the firms whose wages range from 22s. to 27s. per week.
