Mr. NEWMANasked the number of constables in the Metropolitan area that were detailed for special duty on Sunday, 20th instant, in connection with public meetings held or attempted to be held on behalf of the agitation for female suffrage; the approximate hours that such constables were on duty; and what compensation, extra pay, or allowance is granted to constables who are thus called on to lose their Sunday holiday?
§ Mr. ELLIS GRIFFITHIt would be contrary to practice, and I do not think it would be in the public interest, to state the number of constables employed and the hours they were on duty on the occasion referred to. No extra pay or allowance is given to the constables so employed, but they will be compensated for any loss of leave on the day in question by being given leave on another day.
