§ 66. Sir HENRY HAVELOCK-ALLANasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware of the insanitary conditions which prevail in certain of the older streets of Hitchin, in Hertfordshire; if so, whether he proposes to take any action in relation thereto?
§ Mr. BURNSI am aware that in some parts of the urban district of Hitchin the housing conditions are very unsatisfactory, and I have for some time past been in correspondence with the district council in relation to the Queen Street area of the district, with a view to action being taken by the council to remedy the conditions in that area by making an improvement scheme under the Housing of the Working Classes Act, 1890. I have recently addressed a further letter to the council on the subject.
