HC Deb 28 October 1912 vol 43 cc24-5
52. MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked whether Members of the proposed Irish Parliament who are at the same time Members of this House, but spend their Parliamentary time sitting in Dublin and neglecting their work here, will be entitled to draw full pay for being Members of the Imperial Parliament?

Mr. KELLAWAY

Before that question is answered, may I ask whether the Noble Lord was absent from 282 Divisions last year and 107 this year?

The PRIME MINISTER

This will be a matter for the Imperial Parliament to deal with if necessary.

Mr. FLAVIN

May I ask whether the Noble Marquess, who was absent from his duties in this House, is refusing to take the £400 a year and his travelling expenses?

MARQUESS Of TULLIBARDINE

Arising out of the reply, does the right hon. Gentleman think it to the public advantage that Members should be paid for work that they do not do here?

The PRIME MINISTER

I do not think it is desirable.
