HC Deb 23 October 1912 vol 42 c2163
6. Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

asked what was the duty levied by Turkey on Manchester cottons and Yorkshire woolen goods imported into Tripoli; what is the Italian tariff upon such articles; and which tariff will not prevail?

The UNDER-SECRETARY Of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Acland)

The duty levied by Turkey on Manchester cottons and Yorkshire woollen goods imported into Tripoli was 11 per cent, ad valorem. The Italian tariff upon such articles varies with the classes of goods in question, and the duties imposed are severally set forth in the Return of Foreign Import Duties, which is published annually by the Board of Trade. With regard to the last part of the question, I can make no statement at present.

Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

Having regard to the importance of the duties to Lancashire and Yorkshire, will the Government make representations on the subject?

Mr. ACLAND

That has already been done.
