HC Deb 23 October 1912 vol 42 cc2187-8
79. Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether any proposals for the increase of taxation on motor cycles have been submitted to the Secretary to the Treasury and is now under his consideration, and if he proposes to take any action thereon?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Masterman)

The recent Committee on the horse-power rating of motor cars in paragraph 9 of their Report (Cd. 6414) suggested certain alterations, which could not be carried out without legislation, in the present system of taxation. My right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer has no present intention of taking action in the direction indicated.
